Talbot-Lago – A Legacy of Performance and Elegance
Emerging from the collapse of Sunbeam-Talbot-Darracq in 1935, Tony Lago took over the Talbot factory with a bold vision—to create some of the world’s finest sports cars. His passion resulted in a lineup of highly advanced and luxurious vehicles, combining cutting-edge engineering with breathtaking design.
The first post-war Lago-built cars debuted in 1946 under the “Record” nameplate, marking a new era of sophisticated chassis engineering, independent front suspension, and hydraulic brakes. Equipped with the Wilson pre-selector gearbox, these vehicles stood apart for their technical prowess.
At the heart of these Talbot-Lago masterpieces was a 4.5-liter twin-cam, hemispherical inline-six engine, a jewel developed during World War II by Anthony Lago and chief engineer Carlo Marchetti. This magnificent powerplant produced 170 horsepower, delivering both exceptional torque and a stunning visual appeal—thanks to its polished Art Deco valve covers.
A Rare and Exquisite Example
