A Masterpiece of French Automotive Engineering

The 1950 Talbot-Lago T26GS Le Mans Barquette is a significant model in post-war motorsport history, representing one of the last great racing cars from the legendary French marque Talbot-Lago. Built on the high-performance Grand Sport chassis, it shares its underpinnings with the 1950 Le Mans-winning Talbot driven by Rosier.

The T26GS was a marvel of engineering, featuring a 170hp, 4.5-liter long-stroke six-cylinder engine, hydraulic brakes, and a Wilson pre-selector gearbox, offering seamless and precise gear changes. For competitive racing, the Grand Sport model was developed, boasting an enhanced 190hp engine, which powered Talbot’s iconic monopost Grand Prix car.

Chassis #110153 – A Unique Racing Example

  • Built in 1950 and originally delivered to Talbot’s dealer in Brussels, Mr. Gerret, this car was one of only 26Grand Sport chassis with a 2.65m wheelbase, as documented in Alain Spitz’s book "Lago Grand Sport".
  • The chassis later became part of the Musée de Clères collection, under the ownership of Mr. Pichon in the 1960s.
  • The car’s original body is missing, but the current lightweight aluminum body was sourced from chassis 110056, originally raced by T. Bianchi, and was expertly recreated by T. Blight in 1971-1972 as an authentic Le Mans two-seater reproduction.

A Fully Restored Racing Machine

This Talbot-Lago T26GS underwent a complete mechanical reconditioning in 2001-2002, ensuring its impeccable performance and reliability to this day. It remains in great condition, standing as a tribute to the golden era of motorsport and French racing heritage.

A Collectible Piece of Racing History

Included in the comprehensive book "The Car from Paris" by Peter M. Larsen & Ben Erickson, this Talbot-Lago is well-documented in the annals of French automotive history. With its racing pedigree, exclusivity (1 of 26 made), and stunning craftsmanship, it is a highly desirable collector’s item for historic racing enthusiasts and connoisseurs of fine classic cars.

For serious collectors and motorsport aficionados, this 1950 Talbot-Lago T26GS Le Mans Barquette represents an opportunity to acquire a race-proven, exquisitely restored masterpiece that carries the spirit of Le Mans.
